The Nigerian South-South Heritage (NGSSH) is a registered non-profit organization representing individuals and families from the South-South region of Nigeria living in Calgary and across Canada.
Community, Culture & Identity
Our community proudly reflects the rich diversity of the six South-South states: Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, and Rivers, bringing together people united by shared heritage, values, and a strong sense of cultural identity.
Founded in 2009 with a vision to preserve our traditions while contributing meaningfully to our adopted home, NGSSH serves as a cultural, social, and support network for members of the South-South diaspora. We are committed to celebrating our roots, strengthening community bonds, and enriching Canada's multicultural mosaic through active engagement, service, and cultural advocacy.
As an organization, we recognize the importance of maintaining our identity while embracing the opportunities and responsibilities of life in Canada. Through cultural events, community initiatives, mentorship, volunteerism, and strategic partnerships, we create spaces where our members can thrive, connect, and contribute positively to society.
Spring Dance & Annual Events
Our annual events, including our renowned Spring Dance celebration, provide opportunities for cultural exchange, networking, and community building, while also showcasing the beauty of South-South traditions through music, dance, cuisine, fashion, and storytelling. These events not only preserve our heritage but also create meaningful opportunities to share our culture with the wider Canadian community.

Beyond celebration, NGSSH is deeply committed to service and support. We provide assistance to members during important life moments, support new immigrants as they transition into life in Calgary, and contribute to charitable causes that uplift the less fortunate within our local communities. We believe that true community is built through compassion, unity, and shared responsibility.
Our Mission
Our mission is to preserve, promote, and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Southern Nigeria while fostering unity, empowerment, and meaningful community engagement within Canada. Specifically, we strive to:
Promote and showcase the cultural values, traditions, and positive contributions of Southern Nigeria in ways that enrich Canada's diverse cultural landscape.
Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment where members can connect socially, professionally, and culturally.
Encourage volunteerism and community service by supporting charitable initiatives and collaborating with organizations that serve vulnerable populations in Calgary and beyond.
Provide cultural identity, mentorship, and a sense of belonging for children and youth of Southern Nigerian heritage, helping them remain connected to their roots.
Build a reliable support network for members and new immigrants by offering guidance, assistance, and resources that ease settlement and strengthen integration.
Serve as a platform for economic empowerment, professional networking, leadership development, and collective progress for the benefit of members and society at large.
